CD TIP: VILE KANGAS - QWENLAND
(click the CD cover for the link)

"A leading Kaustinen fiddler, a quiet man with deep knowledge of the local repertoire as well as Celtic, American, Swedish and other fiddling, Kangas has steadfastly trodden a quirky renegade path, plunging into pop and session-playing, favouring a personal, sometimes perverse, approach on his electric fiddle and Irish bouzouki, and constructing albums and bands that explore deep into rockism and dense textures, with each project developing his expression of his very individual musical persona."
- Andrew Cronshaw - fRoots, 2007

JULY 15th

MARCH 23

improper use of a bodhran - this happens when one leaves a bodhran unguarded - 2 hours later she was still in there...
this could be a compliment for Christian Hedwitschak?

MARCH 16 - enough with this 'update' it's obvious it's an update.. so only the date from now on. :-)

NEW GALLERY: an ACOUSTIC performance in Oud-Beijerland (NL) on March 13 by Mairtin O'Connor - it was a delightful and very relaxed experience - we even sessioned with him and the boys, I took some photos - you will find them here
Click the photo on the left for a delightful YouTube video of 'The Road West'

UPDATE MARCH 12

So, with problems almost solved the site is back with a new host that will make my life easier regarding relative URLS... I'll be cleaning up a bit and getting the final things right this week.UPDATE MARCH 02

Within the next three days the site will be transferred to the new host - you might experience problems accessing or even failure to open the pages.
I hope I can install everything a.s.a.p. - sorry for the inconvenience.

UPDATE FEBRUARY 19

NEW GUESTBOOK
- you will find it under the menu WELCOME
Please leave a positive footprint - thanks!

UPDATE FEBRUARY 18

We went to the theatre show Irish Unlplugged that was touring The Netherlands, with Danny Guinan & Friends / Beoga / The Fureys & Davy Arthur. Since I also do the site for their agent (www.pbmusicprom.nl) I was able to shoot some photos - and a nice video of a bodhran solo by Eamon Murray (Beoga) - shortly on this site >>>

UPDATE FEBRUARY 17

New outlook of the site - the ENGLISH PAGES have been translated.

I was struggling with the right settings for the flv-player on the left to work... it turns out to be a reason for moving to another host. Probably this week. Check this space for info.

I wasn't happy with the 'Dark Side'.. oops, Site... and I was looking to streamline the multimedia bits, so hence the new layout. I also have started recording the sound and videos for the instructional cd in Dutch (with an english version later).
You'll have to be patient - it is to be released June/July 2007.  - you can order the CD as of June 1 - there will be more information on this site by then...

New also is the audio production
THE IRISH BEAT CONDUCTOR
by FLUITPRAXIS (Jules Bitter)

Ment to be an accompaniment for his students this CD offers a multitude of tracks (40) with several rhytms: Jigs, Reels, Polkas and Hornpipes. These rhythmic, sometimes swinging accompaniment tracks are perfect to get your rhythms tight on the bodhran, or just to syncopate with.  Check it out >>>

UPDATE JANUARY 27

I came across a nice BBC interview with Nothern Ireland Roy Arbuckle about the bodhran [
click to listen] . At the same [page] you can hear a song: '[Northern Man]' : "...a Northern man being more important than being Catholic or Protestant or socialist or conservative or whatever. Living on the border between Northern Ireland/the UK and the Republic of Ireland is a challenging place to be. We are always challenged about who we are, what we are and what we believe.

The song goes; "I have always tried to form my thoughts freely/Free to decide that decisions must be made/And I'll change my mind if it's a lesson for me/I don't know how I'd learn if change left me afraid."

Societies are bound to go through change but it's the artists that pick up these changes first from wherever they come - the ether! Then they filter them through their own mindsets so it comes out in their work.
